Bottega Il Vino degli Dei Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG

Gold Medal, Mundus Vini 2025 · 91 points, James Suckling 2024

Bottega Il Vino degli Dei (“The Wine of the Gods”) Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG is a full-bodied Italian red from Valpolicella, Veneto, made from the native grapes Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. The grapes are dried slowly using the traditional appassimento method, which concentrates their flavor and gives Amarone its depth, warmth and long finish.

Valpolicella has been devoted to grape growing since ancient times. Its name comes from val polis cellae, “the valley of many cellars.” Amarone is the most prized red of the region and one of Italy’s most celebrated wines, known for a character that is both traditional and modern.

Expect deep ruby color with garnet reflections, aromas of Marasca cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry jam, nutmeg and chocolate, and a powerful, structured palate made for slow evenings and second glasses. With more than 20 international medals and scores since 2008, it’s an Amarone that has earned its reputation one vintage at a time.

Perfect For

  • Anniversaries and milestone dinners - built for slow pouring and second glasses, not a quick pour and done.
  • A first bottle of Amarone - approachable enough to be someone's introduction to the style, without softening what makes it Amarone.
  • Braised meats and aged cheese - where the tannins have something to push against.
  • Gifting to the wine drinker who's already tried everything - a Platinum score most people won't see coming.
